Arsenal captain Laurent Koscielny was taken to hospital for a scan after taking a boot to the face in the FA Cup clash with Manchester United last night (Friday).
Already shorn of Sokratis after the Greek fell awkwardly on his ankle in the first half, the hosts were then forced to withdraw Koscielny after taking an kick to the side of his face from Romelu Lukaka, albeit accidentally.
After the 3-1 defeat, boss Unai Emery revealed his fears that the Frenchman may have suffered a broken jaw in the tussle.
He said: “I think they weren’t big injuries for Sokratis [his ankle].
“Maybe Laurent Koscielny is going to hospital to [analyse] what injury he has. Maybe he’s broken [his cheek or jaw] but I hope not.”
With Hector Bellerin and Rob Holding already sidelined for the remainder of the season with ligament ruptures, our injury crisis looks as if it has taken a turn for the comedic. Losing our four best defenders to serious injuries would more or less leave our top four hopes in tatters, let’s hope for some good news.
