There was some bad news and some not quite so bad news on the injury front today (Sunday) as Arsenal updated the situations regarding defensive duo Sokratis and Laurent Koscielny.
Both experienced centre backs were forced off the field against Manchester United on Friday with what looked to be serious ailments, sparking the collective knawing of fingernails among Gunners fans.
On the club’s official website an update regarding the two injuries was published, with Sokratis set to be out for about a month with a left ankle issue.
The Greek jarred his ankle when landing following a challenge with Jesse Lingaard and, despite his best efforts at the time, was unable to continue. It looks as if he has suffered a sprain.
The news regarding Koscielny was a little better, however, with the injury limited to “bruising and swelling” in and around his jaw. That is quite the escape having taken the full force of Romelu Lukaku’s size 12 straight to the face. The Frenchman is being reviewed on a daily basis, the club has said, and could feature against Cardiff if his situation improves.
It remains to be seen whether this injury news affects Unai Emery’s transfer pans with the end of the January window fast approaching. Still, it could be worse.
