VIDEO: Enjoy some of Mesut’s moments of magic as he earns spot on PFA shortlist

Arsenal’s midfield ace Mesut Ozil says he is “proud” to be in the running for the PFA’s Player of the Year award.

The German has enjoyed a stellar season so far – notching up 18 assists and six goals in the Premier League – and his efforts were duly rewarded with nominations from PFA members representing 100 Premier League and Football League clubs.

The 27-year-old took to Twitter to express his gratitude as the news broke this afternoon.

He said:

The PFA’s five-man shortlist for player of the year was announced today (Wednesday) and will see Ozil go up against Leicester City duo Jamie Vardy and N’Golo Kante, Tottenham’s Harry Kane, and West Ham midfielder Dimitri Payet.

I think it’s fair to assume that either Jamie Vardy and N’Golo Kante will pick up the award, given the exploits of the Foxes this season, but Ozil can be rightly proud of his inclusion in the list, especially considering the indifferent season Arsenal have endured.

Having already won the German Football of the Year award in his native country, it’s a fair bet the World Cup winner may also pick up an award or two at Arsenal’s end of season bash.

The PFA awards will be held at Grosvenor House in London on Sunday, April 24.
