If a game was won in the statistics, this would have been a comfortable win for the Gunners but, in reality, it was a million miles from it.
There's still something to be achieved this season, even if it's just pride.
Even if Everton crumble to a 6-0 defeat and Jesus himself descends from heaven to give his blessing to Pep Guardiola's side, the Gunners have to approach it with the plan unchanged: win.
Take nothing away from the performance, however. It was feisty, combative and committed - absolutely everything the previous clash against these sides was not.
As satisfying as that Chelsea win was, however, it's worth bearing in mind that Frank Lampard's side find themselves in a lamentable state - as bad as they have been for a generation.
Arsenal need to get their heads in order, rid themselves of the fear that has consumed them and start delivering the sort of football we know they are capable of.
Fear has doubtless played its part in our recent struggles and we have only really looked ourselves in short bursts of late. The greater part of our time has been spent in panic, disarray and malaise.
Last season, a meltdown in the home straight cost Arsenal a place in the Champions League, this season it may well cost them the Premier League title.
