Rob Holding set for deadline day move across London

One of the last remaining Arsenal players signed during the Arsene Wenger era is set to depart.

Rob Holding has agreed a three-year deal with south London side Crystal Palace, with the Gunners set to receive about £4millon by way of a transfer fee.

The deadline day move has been a long-time coming for the 27-year-old Englishman, who has been out of contention for a starting berth for a few seasons now, albeit deployed regularly as a finisher or in the lesser cup competitions.

Holding, winner of two FA Cups during his spell in north London, was signed by Wenger in 2016 from Bolton Wanderers and will be fondly remembered for his heroics in the 2017 FA Cup final against Chelsea, in which a makeshift Arsenal side held off the might of Chelsea against the odds.

His impending departure, as reported by David Ornstein, will help to thin an Arsenal squad that has been bloated for some considerable time. With the likes of Cedric Soares, Albert Sambi Lokonga and Nicolas Pepe still on the books, however, let’s hope there is more business still to do before the window closes tonight (1 September).
